Proud to be Public was one of many organisations who put in an on-the-ground effort in the Federal seat of Mayo in South Australia.
High profile Liberal Party candidate Georgina Downer has been an active critic of the ABC and works for a think-tank that campaigns for the ABC to be privatised. The three other major candidates all spoke passionately about the need to protect and fund the ABC.
Rebekah Sharkie from the Centre Alliance party has since won the seat of Mayo and has pledged to work with other MP’s to secure the restoration of ABC funding.

A key campaign activity for us in this byelection was to use social media to promote the ABC credentials of the major candidates.
