Justin Milne has resigned from his position as Chair of the ABC Board

Today’s decision by Justin Milne to step down as Chair of the ABC Board was the only tenable course of action considering this week’s developments. While we welcome his decision, serious questions remain about the Government’s level of political interference at the ABC.

The wave of denials of any wrongdoing from the outgoing chairman and various Coalition politicians are not enough to have confidence that the ABC is being allowed to operate independently and in the best interests of all Australians.

After strong public pressure, the Minister for Communication and Arts Mitch Fifield reluctantly called an inquiry into the mess his own government created. This is simply not good enough, we need a transparent and independent Senate inquiry, we are calling on Scott Morrison to establish an independent inquiry into the political interference at the ABC.

Add your name to the petition demanding Scott Morrison establish an independent inquiry into inappropriate political interference at the national broadcaster.

The ABC and its independence are a vital part of our democracy and deserve our full support.
