Proud to be Public volunteers were out in full force with the ABC Friends in the Perth CBD today, raising public awareness about the threats facing the ABC.

Encouraged by Gemima and the Bananas in Pyjamas, hundred of city-goers made a detour to visit our stall outside the Perth Town Hall to show their support and love for the ABC.

Throughout the day, members of the public expressed their anger and dismay that the Liberal Party’s Council had voted in favour of privatising the ABC 2:1. They also wrote beautiful messages of support for the ABC and its workers on our 4 x 3 meter banner.

With the Bureau of Meteorology predicting cyclonic winds by mid-morning, stall volunteers were concerned that we would get blown away. However lady luck was on our side and the weather was sunny and warm until shortly after we finished up for the day.

There is a lot of love for the ABC in our community, but today’s stall has again highlighted that we need to do a lot more work to raise public awareness of the threats currently facing the ABC.
Voters in Perth and Fremantle will head to the polls this Saturday and can use their vote to send a strong message to the Coalition Government – HANDS OFF OUR ABC!
